Last year Outo was part of the Playful - New Finnish Design -fair. This year Outo is again part of the New Finnish Design -fair called StraightForward!

This time Outo is on display in the StraightForward pop up shop.
Now you have a chance to buy your own Outo design in New York City! The designs were made just for this event and therefore are a limited edition! I will be there in person and I m more than happy to have a chat with you. Come and say hello!

Winter, media coverage and lots of beanie orders 01 Mar 2010 posted by Ville

Winter is keeping on going full on! This is one of craziest winters I can remember. My hometown is struggling with the snow, there is so much of it! They have no place to put it in.

January was quite hectic: I spent the first 2 weeks making the orders I had got during the winter holidays and then headed off to Vuokatti where I was attending to a handicraft happening called SukkaSummit (Woolly Sock Summit). The happening was fun, I crocheted for 3 days and even arranged a little competition for the visitors: You could guess the number of beanies I was going to make during the weekend. There were some very good guesses and some very optimistic ones too! Like 100, 93 and so on.. Since there is only 72h in 3 days, these guesses are wrong I m afraid. I m fast, but not that fast! =)

After SukkaSummit I jumped in a Woolly Sock Truck! It was basically a truck with Novita yarn and Marthas in it. I travelled from Vuokatti to Oulu, then took the route back south through Kuopio and Joensuu. Outo was mentioned in the newspapers and one of them made a full story of Outo! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

I m sorry that I m late! This winter I really had to fight to deliver all the beanies for Christmas. The enormous 2 week snow fall didn't help with it either. But somehow I pulled together all the beanies and posted them in time. Hopefully I made people happy on Christmas eve!

Now I have cleared the most of the rush and setting up for the real winter. Of course the spring will follow but now it is the time for the cold, snowy winter!
We have almost a foot of snow here and the temperature drops to -20C° at nights. So it is a perfect time to test the beanie materials.

I have started to get orders for mittens even though I didn't have them for sale on the website so I decided to take them to the collection. That is why I m now having this beanie+mittens sale! I have made only standard design mittens before and now I want you to get crazy and hit me with your wildest mittens+beanie ideas!

This is the sixth year for Outo and I must say, it has really been an amazing year.. New York design exhibition, Sauma design exhibition in Norway, crocheting live for business customers on the sea and many many memorable private orders from you! Thank you!

Jussi, the web master of outowear.com has become such a well known photographer in Finland that he struggled to find time for tuning this years outowear.com-site. I must appreciate Jussi because I have seen his trip from taking photographs to amuse his friends to taking photographs for the largest newspaper in Finland and of course winning the prize "Best newspaper photographer -08".
So...this years site was now updated for this autumn, but the site will have a totally new face some time this winter.

But the most important thing is that you get to see the new products I have developed during this summer. There are new colours and shapes, even a new type of yarn!
The new yarn is alpaca wool. It is the most amazing yarn I have ever seen, it is silky smooth but still as warm as regular wool.
One new technique I learned this year was felting. I m pretty excited about it because it combines crocheting and real "hand making". Once the wool is felted I can shape it as I like. I made a new sleeve for iPod, a felted one, which works brilliantly! Just like the good old iPod cover, this cover stops your iPod from falling as well. Because the felted wool is such a solid material, it keeps the iPod in good condition and protects it from scratches and dust.

Today there was an interesting topic in the finnish news, it said that we finns don´t wear enough clothes when the temperature drops below 0! Check out the story here: Helsingin Sanomat
This article is telling about wearing different "layers" but you can see the same that I m seeing in the picture. Not hat at all!
I have seen this happening for years. Youngsters do wear a beanie/hat on winter times but I think it is the mid aged people who avoid wearing hats. Why is that?
